Textures have played a huge part in the development of my creative work. Recently presented to the Royal Photographic Society, this session is for anyone who's ever layered a texture onto an image and wondered why it didn't quite work.
A Journey of a Thousand Textures explores the many ways textures can be used in Photoshop, not simply to add texture, but to influence colour, light, mood and the overall feel of an image. Because knowing when a texture is adding something, and when it isn't, is just as important as knowing how to use one.
In this session, I'll cover:
Surface photos vs Fine Art textures, what they are and how they differ
How I choose the right texture for an image
The blend modes I return to again and again, and what they're actually doing to an image
Using textures to influence colour, tone and mood
Creating depth, light and atmosphere
Masking, opacity and layering techniques
Using textures creatively within composite imagery
How to recognise when a texture is adding something, and when it isn't
I'll be using examples from my own work and demonstrating my techniques in Photoshop as I take you through the creative process.
