Using Textures in Photoshop for Colour, Tone & Mood

Using Textures in Photoshop for Colour, Tone & Mood

Textures can completely change the feel of an image — not by adding more, but by subtly shaping colour hookup, tone, and atmosphere.

In this one-hour online session, I’ll walk you through how I use textures in Photoshop to enhance mood, soften colour, and bring cohesion to an image. We’ll focus on when textures genuinely add something, why certain textures work better than others, and how to make confident choices when selecting and layering them.

This session is ideal if you enjoy working intuitively and want to use textures with more confidence, intention, and restraint — rather than throwing them on and hoping for the best.

In this session, we’ll explore:

  • How textures influence colour, tone, and mood

  • Blend modes I regularly use — and why

  • Opacity, layering, and decision-making

  • Recognising when a texture enhances an image — and when it doesn’t

I’ll be working through real examples in Photoshop, talking through my creative choices as I go.
